​Civility First

Civility First is a grass-roots movement promoting courteous public and private dialogue.  We are a group of citizens from across the political spectrum who are concerned about the normalization of uncivil discourse, both online and in other shared spaces.

​What Do We Want?

​We want to live in a community where we all treat each other with civility and respect. We want our communities, schools, and public meetings to be safe places for honest discourse. We want adults to be better civic role models for children and youth. We want the voices, values, and opinions of all citizens of our democracy to be heard. We maintain that being heard and hearing others will not happen without respectful listening.

​What Do We Do?

• We promote listening to and learning from people with perspectives different from our own.
• We agree to model civility and respect in our public lives, including and especially when in conversation with those with whom we disagree.
• We commit to courteously challenge hurtful and disrespectful behavior.
• We ask individuals, civil and religious organizations, and politicians to pledge to do likewise.

• Join our classes, workshops and conversations (online or in-person)
• Talk about us on social media and follow our Facebook page
• Participate in art and poster contests
• March in a parade with us
• Help staff a booth during an event
• Help with publicity by taking pictures and videos or hanging posters
• Help organize events and classes

• Join our team as a Volunteer
• Donate financial support
